Amarune's Almanac: Arctics of the RealmsPublisher: Dungeon Masters Guild

CYecW7M.png

"Ah, yes. The “howling frozen nothingness in which living things just disappear forever into all the white emptiness.” At last." - Ed Greenwood (excerpt from Foreword)

"I can remember my dearest Arclath complaining so flippantly in the heat of the jungles of Chult about how one can add more layers in the cold, but there is only so much one can remove to cool themselves. He even asked in my volume on forests, 'What is one to do in that kind of heat? Take your skin off?' Yet these words now ring in my mind as ignorance. He didn’t know at the time, as neither of us could have known, how truly, bitingly cold the winter air can become in the most extreme locales."

- Amarune Whitewave

TITU222.jpg

Amarune's Almanac Volume 4 is the fourth in a multipart series exploring the eight biomes of Dungeons and amp; Dragons within the Forgotten Realms campaign setting.

Arctics of the Realms finds life and excitement in the desolate wastelands of Faerûn. In our travels, we've found new and old flora, fauna, and history to bring to you about the polar regions of the Realms. Arctics of the Realms does this through both narrative prose, written from the perspective of Amarune Whitewave (the great, great granddaughter of Elminster Aumar), and through occasional notes from her husband, editor, and traveling companion Arclath Delcastle.

Contained with this 50-page tome, you'll get:

  • 2 new subclasses

    • the Circle of the Frozen North druid which seeks to expand on the land (arctic) druid.

    • and the Northguard, a conclave of Rangers who are outcast to wander the frigid wastelands and fight the many abominations that thrive there.

  • Variant rules: expansions to the Druid and Ranger classes to allow them more access to the new spells contained within this book!

  • 11 spells: each using a new spellcasting component, Environment, as they each rely on the boons of the world around them.
+1 bonus spell, druidic practice, which is the Druid version of the ceremony spell for Clerics.

  • 10 magic items: drawn from the alien and scarce bounties of the polar regions of Faerûn, and it's denizens.

  • 10 monsters: new creatures for Wild Shaping, mounts, and companions!
plus a template for creatures corrupted by the black ice of the Crystal Shard

  • 20 flora: the "bounty" of the arctic. Roots, lichens, and hearty plants that you can collect and use to create all manner of items, as well as improve some spells.

  • Downtime activities: A gathering expedition specifically designed to find and collect the flora described in this book.

  • 5 location stories: Straight from the journal of Amarune Whitewave herself, stories of their expeditions into five notable Faerûn coldlands: Cloudspire, Icewind Dale, Damara, Great Glacier, and Vaasa

  • A map of Faerûn: Updated for 5th Edition, this book contains a two-page map of Faerûn covering the Sword Coast all the way to the Plains of Purple Dust

  • Also included is a separate high-resolution PDF of the map in both colored and Printer Friendly, available to print on 8.5"x11" or 11"x17"

  • Journal-style sketch art by Shiah "Cinder" Irgangladen and Nathanaël Roux and several other full color pieces throughout the book, combined with a field-journal document style, complete with spilled ink

and...

  • Content and a foreword written by the creator of Forgotten Realms, Ed Greenwood, himself.

Review from Curse of Sebs
Amarune is back with her spellbinding tales of travel that put Volo to shame, this time in the frozen north of the realms, visiting the famous Icewind Dale and Great Glacier among other frost-bound locales. The anecdotes continue to be as entertaining as they are informative. There is a whole frozen playground of new flora to discover and an icy menagerie of new fauna, including the terrible Corrupted Dire Wolf (with the Corrupted template), Emperor Penguins, Narwhal, Snow Fox and Walrus among others, as well as a treasure trove of hyperboreal items and gelid goodies.

Circle of the Frozen North: A Druid to fulfil your Frozen fantasy with beautiful, deadly flurries, the ability to become more powerful arctic beasts and the power to sap the very heat from the core of their quarries, leaving them at the mercy of the cold and an exhausting, yet quick death.

Northguard: A Ranger Conclave of cold-hearted ice ninjas as invisible as a whiteout, as fast and freezing as the winds of winter, and can flash freeze their enemies with a snap of their frosty fingers.

Ingenious new rules for Druids and Rangers, granting them greater versatility and boons from their current and favoured terrains.

12 new spells ranging from thoughtful ritual ceremonies and the creation of beautiful, guiding Northern Lights through new takes on cold, calming spell countering, a greater armour of ice and speed of movement with a frozen slip-and-slide, to absolutely battering, bludgeoning and burying enemies with cascades of ice and stone.

The Blackstaff's Warlock CodexPublisher: Dungeon Masters Guild

The Blackstaff’s Warlock Codex is the ultimate collection of 5E warlock subclasses, options, and spells, from the creators of such titles as The Blackstaff’s Book of 1,000 Spells, Elminster's Guide to Magic, the Player's Companion, Faiths of the Forgotten Realms (I and II), and the Ravenloft Archetypes series (which Critical Role creator Matt Mercer praised as "Really grand content! Well thought out, well presented, and a fantastic supplement to any campaign... Highly recommended!").

The legendary Blackstaff, a scholar of all spellcasting traditions, compiled the many secrets of warlocks-- those bearers of esoteric lore and dangerous magic who commune with infernal intelligences and fey spirits, scour enemies with potent blasts of eldritch power, and bedevil foes with hexing curses. Now the arcane might they channel from otherworldly entities can finally be yours with The Blackstaff’s Warlock Codex.

This sequel to the Platinum-bestselling Blackstaff's Book of 1,000 Spells adds spells from that tome and more to new warlock subclasses, patrons, pacts, variant features, and magic items, alongside roleplaying advice and secrets of pact magic to enrich your experience of playing D and amp;D's most scandalous character class. Examples and lore from Eberron, the Forgotten Realms, Ravenloft, and other settings deepen your warlock's ties to the worlds of the D and amp;D multiverse and illustrate how to connect these rules to your own campaign.

With more than 40 new eldritch invocations, 8 new otherworldly patrons, 5 new pact boon options, over 40 new magic items (including sentient items and artifacts), more than 60 spells for all spellcasting classes (including both brand new spells and a curated collection of spells from the Blackstaff's Book of 1000 Spells), variant warlock class features, and all the information you need to roleplay these new options to the hilt, The Blackstaff’s Warlock Codex will forever change the way you see one of D and amp;D's most popular classes!

D and D Solo Adventure: Drums at Daggerford

D and D Solo Adventure: Drums at DaggerfordPublisher: Dungeon Masters Guild

5e Solo Gamebooks presents Drums at Daggerford, the fifth in our continual series of solo adventures set in the Forgotten Realms. This quest enables you to experience D and amp;D without a dungeon master! Simply roll up a level 5 PC and get playing.

Drums at Daggerford is the way you must experience solo adventuring. Players and DMs beware, a new standard has been set.

This solo adventure continues the story arc first begun in Death Knight’s Squire, developed further in Tyrant of Zhentil Keep and amp; Citadel of the Raven, and left in The Tortured Land. Drums at Daggerford’s ability to echo a Tolkien spirit reverberates throughout the narrative no matter which path you may choose. But choose wisely because a razor’s edge separates peril from glory.

David La Boon

Over a year in the writing, this latest instalment in our solo adventure series is a mini sandbox campaign that will give you anywhere up to 8 hours of solo adventuring enjoyment. Completionists and those who like to replay these adventures will get even more gametime. There are mysteries to be uncovered, items and sidekicks to be gained, codewords to unlock and villains to conquer!

With lots of exploration, meaningful decisions, hard fights, and a variety of rewards and stories, Drums at Daggerford will continue to resonate with you long after solving the big mystery behind Krond Vikkurk’s malevolent plans.

Jessica Laurent

A great adventure playable either as a stand-alone or as part of an ongoing saga with the same hero, Drums at Daggerford is long enough to give you great value for money while being exciting enough to keep you engaged. Sure to scratch the itch for solo players and always-DMs alike

Dantonius Jones

Your story begins in Ilinvur, where you meet a mage, Malthuveus, who sets you on a quest. The town of Daggerford has been taken hostage by a marauding orc known as Krond Vikkurk! Krond, with the aid of an army of orcs, goblins, hobgoblins, gnolls and other creatures, has kidnapped the population of Daggerford and moved them to an unknown location. Krond demands one hundred thousand gold pieces for their safe return. For his efforts, the orc now has a bounty on his head: a reward of one thousand gold pieces has been promised to anyone who can discover the whereabouts of the hostages, and defeat the infamous orc.

As usual, the document contains hyperlinks that navigate you between entries, removing the need to scroll. Also, rather than the more linear narratives of our previous adventures, Drums at Daggerford can take any route you wish as you visit locations in any order you desire, much as a party would in a standard module. Interactive maps allow you to click on locations and visit them for exploration. A system of progress points allows you to measure the passage of time to keep track of resting and travel. But don’t worry - unlike previous quests where progress points have been utilised, there is no time limit on this adventure! Time is the least of your concerns - keeping your character alive is!

Well-written and highly detailed, the world opens up before you where every street corner and forest hollow beckons the brave explorer. Don’t pass it by, there’s a surprising adventure at every turn. I had a blast exploring Daggerford and this is what you need to solo your way through a Dungeons and amp; Dragons adventure.

Christopher Zirk

Playable with any level 5 PC, this adventure is designed to provide you with many hours of DM-less enjoyment. Perfect for those situations where you can’t meet up with your group but have an insatiable craving to roll some dice!

Had lots of fun with this adventure. The story is beautifully written and combat is challenging yet satisfying!

Blackstaff's Tome of WizardryPublisher: Dungeon Masters Guild

Explore the versitile applications of magic in the Forgotten Realms with two of the greatest wizards on Toril as your guides!

Blackstaff’s Tome of Wizardry presents 31 new archetypes for the wizard class, each with tailored spells to add depth and flavor to you game experience - for a total of 139 new spells. Included are 10 new creatures to create or summon. This exploration of magic is annotated by Vajra Safahr and Khelben Arunsun, the current and former holders of the office, and artifact, of the Blackstaff.

In the pages of this tome you will discover the secrets of the various school and associations of a number or new or rediscovered practitioners of the Art;

Alchemical Artillerists specialise in large scale battlefield magic.

The Arcane Experimenter, who twists aspects of spells for greater effect.

Astromancers are masters of gravity and radiance.

Battlemagi specialize in close combat magic and techniques.

Binders are summoners who conjure extraplanar entities directly onto their bodies.

Dimensionalists focus on creating and manipulating pocket dimensions

The Elementalists – Aeromancy, Floramancy, Geomancy, Hydromancy and Pyromancy – each master one element of the physical and natural world.

Emomancers share their emotions magically, amplified for potent effect.

Ferromancers are the masters of metal and magnetism.

Fleuremancers manipulate light and energy.

Golemancers strive to create the perfect construct servant.

Green Star Adepts absorb the essence of a meteorite to become living foci for magic.

Guild Wizards are peerless duellists that draw upon their communal resources.

Hedge magi perfect their craft and synergy by the ‘practical application’ of adventure.

Incanters manipulate the magic of others for increased or decreased effect.

Jaunters bend time, space and causality.

Kineticists enhance and manipulate motion and movement.

Lunar Magi are tied to the phases of Toril’s moon Selune, their power waxing and waning with its cycles.

Mentalists straddle the very thin line between magic and psionics.

Nethermancers manipulate the Shadow Weave, a dark mirror of Faerun’s primary source of magic.

Puppeteers craft and enchant magical marionettes, channelling their magic though te tiny constructs.

Reanimators use their abilities to ‘reinvigorate’ creatures with the energies of life and death.

Runecrafters apply their Art through inscribing enchanted runes on themselves and other surfaces.

Scrymancers excel in information gathering and spy craft through magic.

Soulbinders invest a portion of their essence into a focus object.

Simbarchs, practitioners of the Symbarch Teachings, preserve and practice the magic of the Simbul of Aglarond – perhaps the greatest wizard in the history of the Realms.

Voidmancers reach into the dark places of the multiverse for power and knowledge, trusting their mental discipline to protect them from the horrors within.

Testimonials for Blackstaff’s Tome of Wizardry

“Wow! Just. Wow! This is one heck of an absolutely gorgeous grimoire of wondrous wizards and whizz-bangs. I feel like I need to have Exemplar of Self cast on me to truly comprehend the awesomeness contained within! Over 30 phenomenal schools covering practically every conceivable use of the arcane arts of Wizardry with countless new spells of all levels, wonderful lore and a menagerie of guardinals, ancient virtuous planar pals that guard and guide those who have the power to call upon them.

Want access to pocket dimensions you can tear open and fling at your enemies? How about the power to literally blow people’s minds with a Mind Bomb? Are you more in tune with the moon, wanting to unlock its Celestial healing and unleash Lunar Retribution? Perhaps you’re a Jaunter, wishing to wield control over time and space? All these and so very many more lay waiting to be discovered in these enchanted pages.

Also, I’ve decided Emomancy is a new form of magical screamo music and my band of Nethermancers are called Conjured Gloom. We perform surrounded by dancing shadow beasts. Look out for our new album Inevitable Winter. It’s too cool to handle!”

One Companion to Rule Them All

The Complete Edition of the Dungeon of the Mad Mage Companion is your one-stop guide for running and fleshing out Dungeon of the Mad Mage! It contains every chapter written for the Companion over these last seventeen months, which consists of the following:

  • Halaster's Game. The Companion rewrites Halaster Blackcloak into a deranged game show host whose program, Dungeon of the Mad Mage, is broadcast across the Multiverse! It's this insidious game that the adventurers find themselves trapped in! (Note: the Companion is still a hefty resource for DMs that don't adopt this element.)
  • DM Notes. Quick notes for every chapter, summarizing the level and listing the highlights.
  • Variants Galore. Where something could be polished, or where it ought to have been abolished, the Companion provides you variants you can use—be it a rewritten narrative, new foes, or alternate encounters.
  • Magic Items. To spare yourself the time of leafing through the Dungeon Master's Guide, the magic items found in these chapters have been included.
  • Monster Statblocks. You guessed it: the monsters used throughout these levels have been compiled and their statblocks reproduced for your convenience.

FAQ

1. Twenty bucks? Are you mad?
By buying the Complete Edition, you're saving $17 dollars (if you were to buy every chapter à la carte) or $5 (if you were to buy every bundle).

2. What's the difference between the Complete Edition and its constituent parts?
There's no difference other than a fresh coat of paint and another round of editing (which will be rolled out to individual chapters in the coming days).

3. What's the breakdown of contents?
The first 280 pages consist of the Companion's content. The other 120 are magic item descriptions and monster statblocks.

4. Can I still make use of this guide if I don't run Halaster as a game show host?
You absolutely can! By modifying dialogue, you can scrub away that element but keep the Mad Mage's other antics and quests.

5. Where's the print-on-demand option?
DM's Guild has recently slowed down their print-on-demand catalogue for only hand-selected titles. As of right now, the Companion is not being considered as one. If this chaps your nips, please vent your frustration to DMs Guild on Twitter (@DMs_Guild).

6. I've already bought the Companion's chapters!

If you've already bought the Companion's five bundles or twenty-five chapters, please send a screenshot to me on Twitter (@Wyatt_Trull) of your DMs Guild order history (no personal information included) with your DMs Guild email so I can send you a complimentary copy.

Sharn Notice Boards: After Dark

Sharn Notice Boards: After Dark is a collection of four quests and two bounty hunts. The themes are mostly gruesome and tragic, hence the fitting subtitle. Each quest introduces at least one interesting inhabitant of Sharn to the characters, leads them into diverse areas, and offers seeds for future adventures relating to the mission or client. To run these quests, you need a copy of the Player’s Handbook, the Dungeon Master’s Guide, the Monster Manual, and Eberron: Rising from the Last War (RFTLW).
